Jerry Taylor notes in passing that he doesn’t much care for the offerings of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, causing a dozen or so conservatives to lose their minds. I’m relieved of any obligation to weigh in by Conor Friedersdorf, who pretty much nails it: When blowhards who alienate moderates and poison political discourse have lots and lots of listeners—making them the face of your movement—that is a bug, not a feature. There’s nothing very impressive about “getting the message out” to lots of people if it’s a dumb message.

While we’re counting bugs and features, attacking each other for lack of solidarity makes a fun subroutine.

I started listening to Rush during his long impassioned defense of Bob Packwood. All those female employees accusing him of sexual harassment were liars.
Later I heard an endless attack on Daniel IN-NO-WAY when he faced a single accusation.
It didn’t matter that Packwood was guilty, because he was a Republican. It didn’t matter that Inouye was innocent, he was a Democrat.
After that I decided to turn off Rush whenever I heard him make a statement that was blatantly stupid or misleading. I haven’t heard him much since.
