The architects of the bogus FISA compromise have, for understandable reasons, scheduled a vote on the bill almost immediately after its unveiling, limiting the ability of the broad coalition opposed to the legislation to effectively mobilize or make use of the impressive amount of cash they’ve raised from online donations. Presumably Steny Hoyer has been careful to ensure in advance that he’s got enough quisling Democratic votes lined up to ensure rapid passage. Which means that probably the best chance of stopping this is for Barack Obama to come out against it, emphatically and unequivocally. It may not be enough, since many of the crossovers are Blue Dog dems who seem eager enough to distance themselves from their party’s nominee. And I’d be surprised if Hoyer hadn’t at least sounded out Obama in advance in hopes of preventing just such an awkward moment. Still, given the pace at which this is moving, if he’s going to say something, he’d better say it soon.

Even more exciting would be if Senator Clinton came to the rescue here–if she just started screaming about this as loud as she could to the media and threatened to make an issue of it at Denver.
Yes she can!

Even though he’s a lame duck because he’s not seeking re-election, I assume my Blue Dog Rep. Bud Cramer is one of the quislings. He can’t help himself.

Tomorrow’s just the House vote right? Can we still lobby Obama to stop this thing in the Senate? He’s got enough endorsers there, I think.

The trust is, politicians in lame duck circumstances are the most reliable, at least in terms of indicating what they REALLY think….they have nothing to lose, and don’t have to worry about who will vote of them, or not. Perhaps you should take a closer look at their reasons before you reflexively assume that they are in the wrong…….
