An unsettling thought: now that major media are crediting blogs with having taken Trent Lott’s cojones and served them up on a silver platter after mainstream news dropped the balls, so to speak, will the blogosphere use its powers for good? Because this has certainly pointed a spotlight on, e.g., Josh Marshall and Atrios — will the blogging masses now be trigger-happy for a fresh underreported scandal, in hope of securing that precious fifteen minutes? I suppose it might be good in one sense — Hayekian information entrepreneurship and all that jazz. But it could also lead to a slew of attempts at molehill inflation and teapot-tempest microbrewing. Time will tell.
