Now this is just a supremely cool idea: A nonprofit called Kiva is making microlending twice as micro by allowing individuals anywhere on earth to pledge amounts as low as $25 to be collated into loans to small entrepreneurs in the developing world. An intriguing next step would be a totally open-source approach to microfinance, with distributed user communities rating loans and borrowers (and each other!) with only minimal central orchestration.
