Funky Widget of the Month: 30Boxes

March 29th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I’m fundamentally a little flaky, so any kind of cognitive outsourcing I can do when it comes to keeping myself organized and remembering when I need to do what is invaluable. So I’m glad amigo Tim has hepped me to 30 Boxes, which is a web-based calendar with a couple of handy features. One nice thing is that it’ll ping your cell phone with an SMS when something’s coming up, so you’ll be reminded wherever you are without having to use an obnoxious little phone calendar. But more interesting, though, is the social-network aspect to it, so you can tag different events to share with various sets of buddies. So, for instance, if you have a weekly poker game, you can have the regulars share that event and see easily whether it’s cancelled some particular week. Or just let people know you’ll be at this or that happy hour when you wouldn’t normally bother to contact people or send out an evite but wouldn’t mind friends popping by. If you’re on, you can add me via this button:

30Boxes is cool, but I much prefer Google Calendar, especially b/c of its gmail integration. 30Boxes has tagging, but tagging is just one more thing for me to do when I am creating an event. And integration with Upcoming.org would mean more to me if I ever used Upcoming.org. So basically that is why my 30Boxes calendar isn’t being updated.
