So, maybe you’ve seen the insane thing buzzing around the nuttier corners of the right-wing blogosphere about how Michelle Obama decided to phone up the proprietors of an obscure wordpress blog, then deliver an insane rant during which she attempts to bribe the bloggers with inauguration tickets, suggest that Barack Obama can’t really “deny” Islam, raise questions about his citizenship status, and rail against white American racists.
Oh, also? Michelle Obama suddenly speaks like all those spam e-mails purporting to be from the son of Mobutu Sese Seko.
The Obama campaign has, of course, stated that there was no such conversation, but it’s more than a little depressing that they had to, given how mindbogglingly obviously fake the story was. Has a segment of the population gone so die-hard anti-Obama that there’s really no bullshit filter left at all?

This process amuses me. Same thing happened with Clinton and Dubya, and I assumed the same kind of nonsense has gone on since John Adams took over the presidency. When there are perfectly real reasons to despise nearly every president, why go through the trouble of making shit up?
