D’oh! I would have posted a recommendation earlier if I’d realized that Joss Whedon’s bizarro musical Dr. Horrible—told through the video blog of Neil Patrick Harris’ dorky aspiring supervillain—wasn’t going to be available for free online viewing indefinitely, but it’s still worth clicking through and dropping $4 for the iTunes download. If you’re either a fan of Whedon’s previous projects (Buffy, Firefly) or of Venture Brothers style comics retrospoofs, give it a look. It is, as Sally Struthers used to say, less than the price of a cup of coffee—at least if you’re drinking a grande soy mocha.
Also, I’d been deciding between Danger Mouse and Mike Allred’s Madman for next Halloween (yes, I think about it this far ahead) but I do already have a pair of those vintage goggles…

I desperately want to go as Raven, but I can’t pull it off. Instead I commend this costume to you.

You have Danger Mouse in the USA? Or are we talking about a different Danger Mouse?

@ Anthony. We had reruns of Danger Mouse on one of our cable TV networks back in the 1980s.
I vote for Danger Mouse, but that’s because I think it will be the more ridiculous costume and the resulting photos will be hilarious.

$1.99 for 15 minute chunks seems a bit overpriced. Other downloads on ITunes are $1.99 for 45 minutes.

Anthony-
I’m referring to the Thames cartoon hero with the eyepatch (as opposed to, say, the member of Gnarly Barkley). Nickelodeon ran them in the U.S. when I was a wee bairn; he’s pretty well known here, if you’re Of A Certain Age.

Well, you can get the lot for $3.99, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them were still floating about YouTube if you want a low-fi preview.

I immediately thought “Halloween Costume” when I saw Dr. Horrible. . .but would you go with the white or the red?
I thought it was fantastic, and the ending was completely shocking. It’s worth $6

Crikey, I didn’t know Danger Mouse had made it over to your side of the Atlantic. In the United Kingdom he’s probably the best-loved of our home-grown cartoon characters. Can’t be a child of the 1980s worth the name unless you were weaned on it.
Incidentally, the actor who plays DM, David Jason, is a fairly serious national treasure on this side of the pond as a top-rank TV actor.

so if I understand this correctly, you’re committed to wearing a skintight white costume for halloween, and are just wondering what sort of eyewear you’d rather have.
I guess Madman offers the advantage of leaving you with depth perception, which is helpful in proportion to your planned alcohol consumption.

The Dr Horrible outfit isn’t so much “skintight”… but uh, yeah, otherwise. more or less. We’ll hope it doesn’t rain.

I missed Dr. Horrible by about two hours. Curse you, Whedon!

Unfortunately, I’m too chubby to pull of a Dr. Horrible, but man, I -already- have the lab coat and the goggles as well.
If I had hooves I could maybe pull of Bad Horse.
Or I could just get sweaty and go as Moist.
