Amanda Marcotte exercises her uncanny, quasi-mystical power to peer into the dark, shrouded heart of the libertarian. Among her discoveries: We were all staunch supporters of the war, and think that the rich are morally superior to the poor (who, by the way, they own like chattel). Who knew?

How many poor people do you own, Julian? I only have a dog, though he is very, very poor. His assets probably don’t add up to more than $200, and they’re all in my name!

When it comes to liberals distinguishing the difference between libertarians and conservatives, they seem to get stuck on a ‘if its wet outside, it must be raining’ fallacy. If you believe in free markets (as conservatives theoretically do), you must be pro-life and pro-war! QED.
Sigh. Still, I’m sure much of the ‘confusion’ is deliberate. It seems for most liberals, an advocate of of capitalism is the moral equivalent of bible-thumping war monger.
Also, I didn’t realize people were still trying to make arguments in terms of class warfare.

McArdle is a Bush voting, stanch supporter of supporter of the war. Maybe the Atlantic should have picked a better libertarian, but at least some libertarians are vulnerable to Marcotte’s accusations.

Social conservatives have long realized that Marcotte is usually incoherent and nonsensical. If she continues to turn her attention to economic issues, perhaps libertarians will learn the same lesson. I respect people with the fortitude to actually venture into her comment box.
