How Long, O Lord?

November 17th, 2006 · 1 Comment

So, I’ve had my primary laptop chugging away with Disk Warrior (booted from CD) trying to fix a hosed 150g external drive for something like 11 days now. It’s up to over 6,600 “overlapped files” found, but gives no hint of how much of the drive it’s actually checked. Any tech gurus out there have any sense of how much longer this might conceivably take? If it’s 6,600 of 7,000, I’d hate to pull the plug now. If it’s 6,600 of 70,000 I’m inclined to say screw it and try something else. Anyone?

I’ve had it take a few hours on a 10 GB drive–but that was a 400 MHz G3-upgraded Power Computing clone running OS 9.

As far as how far it’s gotten, it depends a bit on what you have stored there. If it’s your, ahem, media collection, it’s probably done. If it’s a backup of your system, you could be looking at the 70,000 number.
