(1) Why is Dressy Bessy still playing the backstage at Black Cat when they’re transparently better than 90–95 percent of the bands that play the main stage?
(2) Why am I posting about this publicly and increasing (well, by some incredibly tiny margin) the chances it’ll be horrifically crowded or sell out?

Oh, that is it, Sanchez. Trying to keep all the good music for yourself? Well, now me and 50 of my closest friends are coming to the Dressy Bessy show, and you’re gonna be left all the way at the back, trying to hit Matthew Churches on the celly-cell and find out where the after party is. Then we’ll all tell three people we know, and bam, Dressy Bessy will be uncool before Bush names O’Connor’s replacement. Sorry, mon ami, but that’s how we do. Harsh realm.
I kid. I’m a kidder. Who’s Dressy Bessy?

I had the pleasure of seeing Dressy Bessy play mu living room in March 2001 (Pi Lam at UPenn, with The Essex Green and Ladybug Transistor). I also took the band out for coffee at the sadly now-defuncy Comet in University City. Is this indie enough for you, Sanchez? 🙂

Dressy Bessy always struck me as some sort of hypertrophied example of the Elephant 6 style, kind of like what would happen if you put the Apples in Stereo on an island continent and let them evolve to fill the evolutionary niche for a few million years. Hope you had a good time at the show…
