Excellent piece, Julian. I tangled with MISTER Shannen Coffin at NRO over this issue a couple weeks ago. Conservatives are going off the deep end with this court-hatred thing. I never thought I’d say this, but part of me wants the Dems. to win back Congress, if only to teach a lesson to the myopic “conservatives” out there preaching against MARBURY v. fucking MADISON, of all things.
Yeah, lump those Republicans with FDR in judiciary-hating. That way I can kick them both at the same time. Any reports of Democrat-court-hate (maybe from Gore V. Bush 2000?) so we get the trifecta?
I’ve recently come to the thought that it’s revolutionary right-wingism. One of the early steps in a revolution is to trash the reputation of the existing system. That’s where we get statements comparing present-day USA and Europe to Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. That’s where we get the portrayal of (right-wing ‘Christians’ only) ‘people of faith’under oppression.
