Reader Brian Chase clues me in to the fact that a director for the planned Watchmen movie has been chosen. A few years back, the brilliant Terry Gilliam (of Brazil, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Twelve Monkeys fame) had been involved with a project, and lots of us were disappointed when that didn’t pan out—in large part because Gilliam wanted to do a 12-hour version. But I was still pretty psyched when I heard who they’d actually picked: Darren Aronofsky, the man behind Requiem for a Dream and Pi, which lead me to believe he’s got precisely the right visual style for Watchmen. Now they’ve just got to hurry up and film the damn thing.
