Andrew Sullivan has a puzzling line today about “those too embarrassed to admit that they were wrong about the war on terror, wrong about the war in Afghanistan, wrong about the war against Saddam.”
Now, I never had a problem with the “war on terror” in principle, and I was basically OK with the Afghanistan campaign… but what possible reason has anyone offered for the people who opposed the war on Iraq (our bombs are not, alas, smart enough to target just one individual yet) to think they were wrong? It’s been the one-time hawks of my acquaintance who are feeling duped about the WMD issue and now saying that they were mistaken.
