So, looking back over the last few posts, it occurs to me that I’m doing a fair job of ensuring that I’ll return to academia at some point by burning all the journalistic/pundit bridges someone like me would have taken. NatRev? I’ve mocked those poor stupid bastards more times than I can count, and don’t regret it for a second.. TAE? Just shot them down, and though one of their senior editors is an OK guy, I wouldn’t especially care to write for them either. Weekly Standard? Well, just in case the antiwar stuff alone isn’t enough to get me put on the scheisse list, if the 2004 election somehow came down to Bill Kristol and Satan… I’d vote for Satan in a heartbeat.
That leaves, essentially, Reason and the leftymags. But we all know I wouldn’t go over at the leftymags as I stand now, and I’m not ready for my David Brock (and/or) Horowitz moment just yet. I figure when I’m about 30 and make a drastic move to the left, it’ll be right about in fashion… but I don’t have enough good gossip for a really juicy exposé/conversion book just yet.
Well, there we go. Now I have to apply to graduate school.
