So no sooner do I write a piece mentioning the unsettling potential for Microsoft, as the dominant OS, to “lock down” their software in ways that benefit them, but not consumers, than Gates & co. conspire to provide me with an example. (Ok, actually, the example came first, but I just noticed it.) Their Windows Media Player 9 is apparently like one of those creepy Ugandan parasites that crawls into your foot, grows several feet, and wraps itself around your large intestine.
