sub-Text, and why Damian rocks…
As some of you may know, I’ve been working on a project called sub-Text, a media crit webzine I hope to launch in the not-too-distant future. Believe it or not, the idea is not to just push my own political agenda, a-la FAIR or AIM, but rather to have a really multipartisan expose of the shallowness and bias of media– which means “entertainment” as well as journalism. If that ends up cutting in a libertarian direction by generating skepticism about the political process, well, that’s a nice fringe benefit. But in all honesty, I’d rather have people thinking about politics in a more autonomous way than just agreeing with me. Propaganda is fine in the short-term, but I think it’s counterproductive in the long run. Someone who can be sold on my propaganda today will just as easily buy someone else’s tomorrow.
Anyway, I dunno if this is all going to pan out, but my friend Damian, who’s doing the design, just sent me a mockup, and I’m really jazzed at how good it looks. At the risk of screwing with the mystique of it all by revealing our working drafts, the prototype image is here.
Ok, enough about that… I’ve got a column to write, and a drive to Barcelona to pack for…
