There, uh, must be something in my eye…

Ok, no, I actually got teary watching this too. Pass it around.

“Fidelity”: Don’t Divorce… from Courage Campaign on Vimeo.

Ok, Ok, when I say “got teary” I mean “bawled like John Turturro in Miller’s Crossing.” Seriously, this is some incredibly powerful stuff.  If they’d had this running during the campaign, I think there’s a good chance they’d have beaten back Prop 8.

    Look into your heart!

I suspect Sullivan will have an impassioned take on this, given his belief that the anti-Prop 8 campaign failed primarily because it tried to avoid talking about gay people. This video very effectively and sympathetically (this is a staid way of saying that I cried like a baby) features actual gay people.

Sadly, the very images that make us more convinced of the rightness of gay marriage will make the bigots even more convinced of its wrongness. Images we see as loving, they see as revolting. Their moral sense is broken.

You’re not crying. Your eyes are just a little sweaty today.

Hate to say it, but I think Glen is right. Or they’ll find some excuse that the family lives of all those people are irrelevant. “We’re doing it for the children!”

I disagree, Glenn. As they’ll tell you themselves, a lot of gay marriage opponents don’t hate gays. They just find gay marriage too “intrusive.” But they might change their minds if they see the human costs they’re inflicting.

Out of curiosity, why are you advertising “free” government grant money on your website?

  • 9 Julian Sanchez // Feb 12, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Google picks the ads; all sorts of silly stuff runs. Though really, it’s not like they’re earning terribly much money; I’m thinking of just scrapping ’em.
