I always used to consider it a rule of thumb that once any person, band, trend, or other phenomenon was written up in the New York Times Style section, it was over—or at least seriously moribund. I’m hoping that’s only approximately true, since roomie Dave Weigel and I make a cameo in this NYT profile of the “Flophouse” where Yglesias, Spencer, Kriston, and Becks all live. Primarily, it establishes that our lives aren’t appreciably more interesting than those of any other 20-something professionals in the same industry who share quarters. Still, vaguely gratified that the first occasion on which I see myself quoted in the Times (1) makes a point of mentioning my velvet smoking jacket, and (2) contains the line “gnawing on your keyboards like a ravenous bonobo.”

You know, there’s something ironic about close physical proximity of bloggers being such a vital part of blogging culture, given the whole world-on-your-desktop interconnectedness of the Internet.

Hmm, bring that smoking jacket next time you are in the deep south.
