I’m getting set to do a redesign and relaunch of this website and blog, and I’m thinking it’s time to bid farewell to “Notes from the Lounge” and rechristen the enterprise with a title more fitted to its content. That’s a sufficiently personal thing that I’ll probably end up having to come up with a name myself, but if anyone has any brilliant thoughts — something short and catchy that evokes the hodgepodge of things I write about — suggestions (general or specific) are welcome. The current frontrunner is “The Experience Machine,” which I like better the more I think about it, and may ultimately be what I go with. But I’d be a poor blogger if I didn’t try to exploit the distributed intelligence of the Web before committing myself.

I like “The Experience Machine.”
But, I wouldn’t spend my life there.

good luck. Personally, Experience Machine doesn’t do anything for me. It really is a personal preference, and you may ho-hum my suggestions too. That’ll be OK.

new wrinkle
just add water
ghoti (phonetic spelling of the word “fish”, courtesy George Bernard Shaw in a rant on the absurdities of spelling)
community of light (from the suicidal last page of John Steinbeck’s “Winter of Our Discontent”: ‘It isn’t true there’s a community of light, a bonfire of the world. Everyone carries his own, his lonely own…A rustling school of tiny feeding fish flicked along the shore… My light is out. There’s nothing blacker than a wick…Inward I said, I want to go home- no not home, to the other side of home where the lights are given.’)
ribbon of absurdity (something I read in an old book: There’s a ribbon of absurdity that runs through creation…)
